Nicola Benetti
Urbino Junior - harpsichord

Programme

The course is open to young harpsichordists or piano students with first experience on the harpsichord, without an age limit, who are interested in learning and exploring this instrument. The repertoire is free and there will be no video selection of participants. Ample space will be given to each student's musicality, and the potential of the harpsichord will be explored through a light, practical approach and a more in-depth look at performance practice. Classes will be open to all students who wish to stay beyond their own lessons. In fact, we will be able to talk together about many aspects of the harpsichord and its history, how it is built and tuned, how music was once written and printed for it, what the Basso Continuo is, and how the harpsichord is used to accompany singers and other instruments. I will write here some pieces that will be used as examples during the lessons. Those who wish may prepare some from the following list:
- F. Couperin: Preludes from "L'art de toucher le clavecin", Les Baricades Mistérieuses
- J. P. Rameau: from "Pièces de Clavecin" (1724): Menuet en Rondeau, Les Soupirs, Le Lardon, La Boiteuse
- J. S. Bach: Inventions for two voices
- J. J. Froberger: Suites for harpsichord
